Over 7,848 men, women and youth in 146 clubs and 13 affiliate clubs across the state belong to the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. We are also members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., which is the largest volunteer organization in the world, with over 265,000 members. AS WE: LEARN The following schools offer continuing education and training for our members.
State and local flower shows for all to learn and enjoy.
The "NEWS," the official newsletter of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. - ten times a year. AS WE: Encourage our youth - helping to form groups and set up programs for young, intermediate and high school gardeners; offering Federated Garden Club of Conecticut Scholarships to high school and college students as well as hundreds offered each year by member clubs. Protect our earth - educating members and the public through environmental workshops; supporting legislation at all government levels as it affects land use, pollution, waste management and other similar areas of concern. Conserve our resources - publishing a conservation list titled The Preservation of Connecticut Wild Plants, encouraging all citizens to "Protect Wildflowers." Beautify our communities - aiding member clubs in planning suitable projects, encouraging their members to serve on local planning and planting councils and inspiring all citizens to take pride in their communities. MEMBERSHIP: Membership in The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., comprises members for whom dues are paid according to the Bylaws. This includes members of a garden club, Honorary Life Members, Life Members, Affiliate Members and members of Youth Gardeners. Current membership is approximately 8,143 with 152 clubs.
The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. welcomes membership applications by individuals and by garden clubs. Members of The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. are also members of National Garden Clubs, the largest gardening organization in the world. Members may learn the basics of flower arranging and horticulture, may avail themselves of educational opportunities in the schools sponsored by The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., and may use resources from our state Headquarters for club programs and projects. All members receive 10 issues of the "NEWS," the state publication which lists important dates, club activities and columns of interest. Also available to them are books and garden related items for sale and Federation sponsored trips and tours. Joining a garden club enables individuals to meet other gardeners, to exchange ideas and to compete for awards. Member garden clubs may nominate a qualified college student to apply for a scholarship in garden related fields. The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. also offers member clubs a low-cost liability insurance policy for special events. Affiliate Membership: Available to any organization in Connecticut distinguished in its field, expressing adherence to objectives of The Federation and an interest in its aims and purposes. To find a garden club in your area, fill out and submit an Information Request Form and we will forward information about clubs in your area.
